Humanities Staff Council
About the Staff Council
The College of Humanities Staff Council advises the Dean on all matters reflecting staff concerns and proactively pursues and researches existing and new initiatives, policies, programs, and service projects designed to enhance, promote, and support staff development, staff welfare, and staff organizational responsibilities.
The Council acts in an advisory capacity to the Dean. As such, the Council takes such actions as are necessary to accomplish the following objectives. Responsibilities include:
- Providing a forum for communication, soliciting and distributing information among staff, and between staff and University administration, concerning plans, programs, and issues affecting staff.
- Representing staff when issues are considered by the College and the University.
- Representing staff on committees, planning groups, and task forces, and in the community, as deemed appropriate.
- Considering, studying, and making recommendations to the Dean regarding procedures, policies, and other general issues and concerns.

College Staff Council Election Guidelines
The Council Staff Council will consist of five full-time staff members (academic staff not included) elected by their peers for two year staggered terms. All staff are eligible to vote. Council members will elect a chair annually. Council representatives are eligible for re-election but can serve no more than two consecutive terms. There will also be two ex-officio members from the Dean’s Office on the Council as appointed by the Dean.
The Council Chair will represent College of Humanities staff on the College Executive Committee and be nominated to serve on the University Staff Council. The staff council will meet at least four times each year and as needed to fulfill its responsibilities.
