Philosophy 7480 Seminar: Truth and Vagueness

Fall 2005
Wed 2:00-5:00
Location: OSH 336
Elijah Millgram

What is truth (and why does it matter what truth is)? Can truth be partial (is vagueness real)? We will examine coherence, correspondence, pragmatist, redundancy and prosentential theories of truth, as well as spectrum-based, precisificationist and epistemicist theories of vagueness, among other topics.

No prerequisites; however, you may be more comfortable in the class if you've taken one or more advanced (5000-level or higher) courses in any of: metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of mind or philosophy of language.

Undergraduates may take this class with permission of the instructor.
