Plato

Fall 2007

FAMB 203 NOTE ROOM CHANGE
Wed 2:00-5:00

Instructors:

Eric Hutton

Elijah Millgram

Alfred North Whitehead once said of the European philosophical tradition that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato; Bernard Williams more recently gave his short book on Plato the subtitle, "The Invention of Philosophy". In this in-depth survey of Plato's thought, we will read our way through as much as possible of his work, with special emphasis on his metaphysics.

Prerequisites: Philosophy 4110 or equivalent recommended. Greek not required. If you have had no previous philosophy, please consult with the instructors before enrolling.

Philosophy 5193 and Philosophy 6190 are different labels for a single class, co-taught by two instructors (Hutton and Millgram). If you are an undergraduate, you sign up for 5193. If you are a graduate student, you sign up for 6190.
