Seminar in Ethics: Kant's Moral Philosophy

Fall 2000
W 2:00-5:00
Location: OSH 336
Elijah Millgram

Kant developed a deep and original moral theory that emphasized autonomy, respect for others, and principles over consequences; in doing so he founded a tradition that, in the last two decades, has produced some of the most creative and compelling work in contemporary ethics. We will read Kant's moral writings (including the Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, the Critique of Practical Reason, and Religion within the Boundaries of Mere Reason), together with recent Kantians such as Christine Korsgaard, Barbara Herman and Onora O'Neill.
